Who we are
We are Shalom House! Located in Higashi Kurume, Tokyo, we welcome all kinds of people to come in and rest, grab a coffee, make some art, and experience some of the promises Jesus gave us for his people and his Kingdom on Earth.
We hope to care for weary pastors and their families, kids who need a place to express creativity, and people who want to practice English with friends. Also, caring for our staff is a huge priority! We all want desperately to become more like Jesus!
As Christian workers, it is easy to get overwhelmed by all the need around us. Oftentimes, we are so busy serving God and others that we can totally forget that God’s kingdom and good news are also for us, right now.
Because of all of the need around us, many places where Christian workers are employed can end up being simply places where we work to do as much as we can, exhausting ourselves and missing out on God’s promises.
Shalom House wants to balance the script on service and ministry. We practice ways of being staff together that allow God to care for us, remind us continually that we are to be rooted in The Vine that is Christ, and create a foundation of God-dependance for the work and ministry that God calls us to. In short, we practice being an example of the Good News of God’s Kingdom on earth.
